Bon Appétit, Your Majesty: Hidden Clues Fans Spotted in the First Episode

In Bon Appétit, Your Majesty, the heroine Yeon Ji-young is transported back to the Joseon era after encountering the mysterious book “Mangunrok”.

In just a few fleeting seconds, the camera panned over its pages, but sharp-eyed fans caught the hidden text and shared it online.

To everyone’s surprise, the book contained clues foreshadowing the story’s future developments.

In this post, I’ll share an English translation of the intriguing passages from “Mangunrok”,

For those who have already watched the drama, it’s a fun new layer to revisit—and for those eagerly waiting for upcoming episodes, it offers an exciting hint of what’s to come.

"A lady appeared through the clouds and became the royal chef.
Now I’m curious about the food she makes...."

"On the Road Back to Ming

Yugeun asked me to send Yeon Ji-young as a tribute maiden.

How dare he take the royal head chef away from me!

I wanted to behead him on the spot, but in the end, I merely struck his face with my fist.

What a despicable man.

Unable to accept the defeat at XXX, and disturbing the dignity of the Great Kingdom,

Ming would have no words to counter me on this matter."

"It now seems that the Daeryeong Suksu has almost become a person of Joseon.

If ever Yeon Ji-young were to return to the place she once called home,

it would only be because I permitted it,

never something a mere man like Yugeun could dare to request of me.

Even should the Emperor himself command it,

I could not hand Yeon Ji-young over.

She is the Daeryeong Suksu of Joseon,

and she will cook only for me."

"Lately, I’ve been having more and more of those moments.

Even when entering the royal court to discuss state affairs, or just before lying down to sleep in the front hall, her face and voice kept coming to mind.

Once, when I went out hunting and was about to draw my bow, the image of Daeryeong Suksu (royal head chef) flickered before my eyes, so I drove my horse on without a single pause.

I shook my head and even my whole body, trying to shake free of  thoughts of her.

But once again, her face and voice became a gentle dust, drifting through the air and sprinkling over me.

Tonight will be another long night.

Every morning when I open my eyes… as the royal meal is brought down… I get excited.

More delightful than the royal table itself is the sight of her bringing out those delicious dishes,

so these days I find myself eager for the moment I awake.

It makes me think again about what a young man’s love truly is.

I never thought I would find myself filled with concern for someone’s well-being and with a longing to see someone each day.

If my mother had seen Dae-ryeong Suk-soo, what would she have said? I’m sure she would have cherished her as much as I do, and it’s truly a pity that she never got the chance to."

The trailer for the final episode has just been released, and it features Hwansae-ban, which was written on the torn last page of Mangunrok.
I’m curious to see what role Hwansae-ban will play and how the drama will ultimately come to a close.
